Find Out If You’re in the Running for the Job
There’s nothing more exciting than reading a job ad and knowing in your heart of hearts that this could be the right job for you. Without wasting precious time, you apply for the position and you cross your fingers while you wait for a call-back. Every time your email dings or your phone rings, you immediately stop what you’re doing to check if it’s news on the job front.
Unfortunately, it’s been weeks (or months) since you submitted your job application. Before you let the sound of crickets discourage you, know that the hiring process can potentially drag on for months. Despite this, you can do something to find out if you’re in the running for the job.
2 Ways of Following Up Your Job Application
Waiting to hear back about a job isn’t topping anybody’s list of favorite things to do. However, if the job posting didn’t come with an instruction to not contact the employer, you can choose to take matters into your own hands and follow up on your job application. Goodwill Car Donations shows you how to do so without ruining your chances of landing your dream job.
- Send a follow-up email.
Sending a follow-up email is easy to do and gives you and the hiring manager a record of the correspondence. What’s more, it provides the hiring team with an opportunity to email back at a convenient time.
Avoid sending your email on a Monday or a Friday. Keep in mind that Mondays are often busy transition days as folks try to move back into their work mode. On the other hand, your email is going to get buried under a weekend’s worth of emails if you send it on a Friday. It’s best to follow up on your application between Tuesday and Thursday.
When you’re writing your email, be sure to put your name and the title of the position you applied for in the subject line. This will make it easier for the hiring manager to see what the email is about. Furthermore, it’s best to use the hiring manager’s first and last name as you begin your email with a polite salutation. After you thank your prospective employer for their consideration, don’t forget to include a business letter closing and your signature.
- Make a follow-up phone call.
Unless the job listing says otherwise, you can choose to call the hiring manager if you haven’t heard back about your application two weeks after you’ve sent your follow-up email. Be sure to call early or late in the day when the hiring team is less likely to be in meetings. It’s perfectly acceptable to call once or twice before you leave a brief message with your name and the position you applied for.
If the hiring manager picks up the call, make sure that you give them your name and the job title you applied for before you briefly explain why they should hire you. While you’re at it, don’t forget to highlight your specific qualifications and skills that are relevant to the position.
Before ending the call, remember to thank the hiring manager for their consideration. Let them know that you’re willing to clarify any information on your resume before you give them your phone number.
Help the Needy in Your Area Find Stable and Rewarding Jobs
Disadvantaged residents in your community won’t think twice about accepting job offers whether with “at-will” status or otherwise. They’re willing to do anything that will enable them to support themselves and their loved ones.
Unfortunately, their chances of landing stable and rewarding jobs are scarce because of their disabilities, lack of job experience, skills, or education, and other personal impediments, such as having prison records.
If you’re looking to find ways to help these disadvantaged individuals, you can choose to turn your car into a job generator by donating it to us at Goodwill Car Donations.
We’re willing to accept nearly all types of vehicles, regardless of their year, make, model, and working condition. Right after we fix and polish your clunker, we’ll put it up for auction and hand over the proceeds to the Goodwill organization serving your area.
Goodwill organizations are IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are located throughout the country. They use the funding from our vehicle donation programs to provide their beneficiaries with job training, employment opportunities, scholarships, livelihood assistance, disability benefits, and other critical community-building support services.
As a Goodwill donor, you’ll enjoy meaningful returns for your generosity. These include the free towing of your unwanted vehicle and your entitlement to the highest possible tax deduction, which you can claim in the next tax season.
Moreover, nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction you’d feel, knowing that your charitable contribution will greatly benefit your community in terms of the jobs that it will create for the empowerment of your less fortunate fellow residents.
We accept nearly all types of vehicles, whether they’re still in good running condition or no longer. We can pick up and tow your vehicle wherever you had it parked or stored anywhere in the country.
